Eligible Manitobans can begin booking their first dose appointments at the Selkirk supersite today. The site, located at the former Selkirk and District General Hospital, will begin providing immunizations on Monday, March 8. An update will be provided when Manitobans can begin booking appointments at the Morden supersite.
Beginning this week, several northern communities will use Vaxport to access immunizations at the nearby supersite in Thompson. The first communities participating in this pilot phase include Wabowden, Herb Lake Landing, Snow Lake, Grand Rapids and Misipawistik. Communities were selected based on their readiness and ability to travel for the vaccine. Additional information about Manitoba’s immunization strategy for the north will be released in the coming days. Vaccine Administration To date, 76,670 doses of vaccine have been administered including 47,780 first doses and 28,890 second doses. This week, Focused Immunization Teams (FITs) will visit about 120 congregate living facilities located throughout the province with an estimated 4,800 residents. A final update on the FIT campaign in personal care homes will be provided as soon as the data is available. To date, approximately 500 medical clinics and pharmacies have applied to be part of the immunization campaign. Appointments and Eligibility Criteria Appointments can currently be booked in Winnipeg, Brandon, Thompson and Selkirk.
Eligibility criteria are expanding today to include: • individuals born on or before Dec. 31, 1930, and • First Nation people born on or before Dec. 31, 1950. Manitobans should check www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html to determine if they are eligible to make an appointment. If eligible, call (toll-free) 1-844-626-8222 (1-844-MAN-VACC). Everyone who calls is screened to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria before booking an appointment.
The average wait time to make an appointment by phone is less than a minute. A call-back option is also available instead of waiting on hold. Vaccine Supply and Distribution To date, a total of 108,460 doses of vaccine have been delivered to Manitoba. This includes: • 79,560 doses of Pfizer vaccine; and • 28,900 doses of the Moderna vaccine. Manitoba expects to receive 16,380 doses of Pfizer vaccine this week. Additional Information Manitoba’s daily maximum capacity measures the number of doses the province could give every day, if vaccine supply was not an issue. The provincial target is 20,000 doses per day by April, and it is currently 11,759. The vaccination calculator lets Manitobans see where they are in the priority line, based on their age, vaccine uptake and other factors.
